Afzal Dean is President of Hilco IP Merchant Banking. Prior to joining Hilco, Afzal was President of Marquis Technologies, offering integrated IP consulting services. He has over 15 years of patent and technology licensing-specific experience in the Asian, North American, and European markets and more than 25 years of total international business, engineering, and telecommunication experience.
Afzal was a co-founder of Rockstar, where he led the assertion-based mobile phone, tablet, and personal computer patent licensing business. His IP expertise includes developing IP monetization strategies, reverse engineering, claim chart development and patent portfolio analysis. Prior to joining Rockstar, he led the wireless patent licensing business at Nortel, where he also served as Director of Engineering and Business Development. Afzal transitioned to Nortel from Bell Canada International where he was VP of Operations based in Hong Kong.
